It was my birthday. We were having some friends over before going out later.
I was actually getting really frustrated with my FH because he was supposed to be helping me clean/decorate and instead he kept freaking out about my birthday cake and spent like 2 hours fixing it.
I couldn’t understand why, It’s just a birthday cake, like help me get sh*t done before people get here. Haha.
Well fast forward three hours, they bring my cake out. Once I blow out the candles someone turns my cake around. On the backside in candy letters it says will you marry me, and my FH is behind me on one knee. (apparently the letters kept falling off the cake which is why he was obsessing over it.
I proceeded to start crying and called him a jerk as I hugged him before I said yes. It sounds mean but it was actually really funny and cute looking back on the videos.
We have been together for 2.5 years now. At the time we were together for a little over a year. When we get married it will actually be 3 years to the date that we met. August 24. We were official within a week, and I knew he was the one within the first month.
Also I love that you proposed to him. That's awesome! When you know you know, and I'm glad you took the initiative.
It was! It basically ruined me for all other vacations hahah!
That sounds like a dream vacation if I ever heard one
Who proposed to who?
He proposed to me
What item did they propose with – or what was it a verbal exchange?
He proposed with a placeholder ring that he got while we were in Mexico. That'll teach me to take a nap on the beach (he must have left for 30 minutes to get it!)!
When was it? Days leading up the Christmas? On Christmas? New Years Eve? Anniversary?
It was late October on a spontaneous trip to Mexico He thought we needed a little getaway and little did I know he had other plans lol.
Where. Did. It. All. Go. Down??
Some may have caught on that we were in Mexico lol. It was about 4 hours before we had to leave our resort and I was desperate to go to bed to get a couple hours of sleep before we had to go. He coerced me into staying up and popped the question while we were standing on our balcony (that led out into our own swim-up pool omgggg I miss it).
How long have you been together – but how long have you known that they were “The ONE”?
We're coming up on our 9 year anniversary next month and I knew within the first year of dating
I think after the wedding we might slow down a little. We will see. We have a kitty right now and he is our life, we want another one but we aren't sure how the chemistry between the cats will be so we think we will foster a cat from the local shelter and see how it goes! Our cat is a King and he is spoiled so I want to try it out lol.
We are both in a wedding in August, so no honeymoon baby for us! I do not want to be pregnant at that wedding. Then in September we have a Vegas trip planned so that wouldn't be ideal. Maybe next year we will have a kid. We don't have a house yet we just rent, so that will be a priority next!
I absolutely LOVE that you guys made individual trips around to tell important people in person about the engagement, that is so special that you got to see everyones faces. I was out of the country when it happened so I called everyone, but seeing them react would have been so amazing.
Awww, I wish some of our friends had reacted a bit more - we had been together for 10 months when I popped the question and we started telling people about 2 weeks after we got engaged (Since I proposed he still insisted that he asked my Dad for my hand in marriage as well) and mostly everybody was like "finally - we figured it would happen soon"... I mean, good to know everyone believed in us as a couple, but come on!! Give me some excitement and act surprised!
That's EXACTLY what were doing! i think that personal vows are beautiful, but too intimate for us to share in front of 110 people! we're going to write "vows" to each other in the form of a letter that we will exchange before the ceremony. We won't be doing a first look, but our photographer will deliver the other's letters to us and will capture the moment of us reading the vows!
Oh well now I wish there was a video or something!!
I'm thinking that since I couldn't get all of what I was going to say out on that day that I will put it into a speech at our wedding (we aren't doing personal vows - he's just not into that kind of thing)!
Definitely sounds like it was worth the dying!!
Is that the picture you have as your profile picture? (Like from that day/ same place)
Chills!! Literal chills!!!
And I love when the rings are so personalized! I ended up telling my Fiancé what I wanted and he sketched it out for our designer to make
Hahaha i definitely knew I was going to say yes, but for some reason when I knew it was gonna happen THAT DAY I got SUPER weird and awkward! we were walking down the beach and he started his little spiel, I got the giggles! I could not stop laughing!! When he got down on one knee I actually started jumping up and down and happy dancing and just giggling like a fool! He finally had to tell me to shush so he could say what he wanted, at which point we were both laughing, AND THEN IT HIT ME. and I started BAWLING and just sat down in the sand hahhahhaha i'm sure if anyone witnessed our proposal they would think i was nuts. looking back, I have no idea what he actually said to me when he proposed - i was so out of it! I made him give the speech again after once i'd calmed down so I could remember!!
My Fiancé was the opposite about marriage! He was the one saying he wants kids and a large family and yadda yadda yadda...
Do you plan on getting any engagement photo's done where he proposed? I know it's been some time but I waited basically a year to do mine!
Were you worried of what you were going to say? lol jkjk - but really though, did you think you would cry/ did you cry? I know I was the one who proposed and knew I was doing it and when - yet I got maybe 2 sentences into why he is my perfect man and I broke into tears!!
