How to Stay Organized While Planning a Wedding

Before you dive too deep into wedding planning, you need to get yourself organized. Here’s how to do it.

Organization is key for planning a wedding. You’ll be juggling a lot of meetings, appointments and people, and you need to stay on top of it all. Now, this might seem like a breeze for a type A person, but for most of us, not so much. If you need help getting everything in order for your big day, we’ve got a few tips for you.

Here’s how to stay organized while planning a wedding.

Get on board with apps
Apps can be real life savers when it comes to organization. Which ones do you need? Well, Pinterest and Instagram are definite musts for finding wedding inspo, but practical tools, like our WeddingWire app, are even more useful when planning a wedding. You can use it to stay on track with your budget, sort out your seating plan, create checklists, look at vendors and more (consider it the Swiss Army knife of wedding planning). It’ll store all the info you save to your profile, so you can check-in on your computer or your phone.

Go old school with a planning binder
Even if you love technology, don’t knock the traditional paper binder for planning a wedding. It’s a great place to store hard copies of vendor contracts, receipts and important documents. You can also use it to track your planning progress, jot down notes, create small scale vision boards and brainstorm ideas (pens and paper work better than keyboards and screens for some people).

Learn to love lists
You’ll have a lot of balls in the air while planning a wedding and it’s hard to keep track of all of them. That’s where lists come into play. Make them for everything - which vendors you need to hire, who you plan on inviting, important phone numbers and emails, which pieces of decor you still need to rent or purchase - literally everything. Keep it all stowed away in your wedding binder or use a digital version on your WeddingWire profile. Check things off as you go so you know what you’ve accomplished and what you have left to tackle.

Hire a wedding planner
OK, so you already have digital and paper planners on the go, but what about a real living, breathing human? No, a wedding planner isn’t 100% necessary but they’re super helpful for scatterbrained couples or people who just want a little extra help putting together their celebration. If you have room in your budget, it’s definitely worth considering.

Make a wedding website
Creating a wedding website is an absolute must. This digital hub will keep you organized and ensure that all of your guests are in the know about the details of your big day (a real win-win). Everything from your FAQs to your registry info to your accommodation details can be displayed on it and you can update it as your wedding plans evolve. P.S. you don’t have to go through the trouble of buying a domain or learning coding basics if you use the WeddingWire template, it’s easy to use and will only take a few moments to get up and running.
